Time Frame for Meetings:
Respect the time of your members and have a planned beginning and ending to your meetings.
Usually 40 minutes to one hour of discussion is plenty of time for a lesson.
Some groups find it beneficial to have 20-30 minutes of socializing time at the beginning or end of your discussion.
Childcare:
While this is always a helpful options, it is not always feasible.
Weight the importance of providing caregivers, safe and enjoyable spaces for children, and possible costs with the number of people who will use this option.
If you are meeting in a church with a nursery or classrooms that are available for use, that is helpful - but caregivers must still be identified and legal considerations may be necessary for safety and protection of all involved.
Some churches will include childcare and a children's ministry program to meet alongside a Global Coffee Break group. This would be an excellent option to consider!

Application Questions - What do I learn and how do I respond?
Application connects scripture with our everyday lives and is the ultimate goal of Bible discovery. Look for timeless principles or what has been learned about God.
PS-004
Study your Bible with Global Coffee Break
Use the Discover Your Bible materials to learn more about God's Word
PS-005
Every group is unique
Think outside of the box. Where is God calling you to reach out to people who need to know his love and truth? What opportunities challenge and inspire you?
PS-006
It's time to DREAM!
Brainstorm a list of at least 7 places you might meet with your group. Now is not the time for working out the details! Consider your area, potential participants, central gathering places, and comfort.
PS-007
Begin each meeting with a "warm-up" question or "icebreaker."
This does not need to be clever or silly. It will help the participants to relax and warm up to one another and thelesson. The warm-up question is non-threatening.
Warm up questions will:
Relax the group
Allow everyone to answer (at least once!)
Be non-threatening for those with little or no Bible knowledge
Allow answers based on group members' experiences, opinions, and ideas
Create a natural connection to the Bible lesson
Be answered in a word, phrase, or sentence, not a paragraph, chapter, or book!
Help the group leader and members learn more about each other and build relationships
PS-008
Inductive Bible Study:
Inductive means drawing conclusions based on EVIDENCE - let the text speak for itself.
Studying the Bible matters because it helps you:
Know God's heart, not just his blessings
Stand firm on truth, not feelings
Recognize false teaching when you hear it
Grow a faith that is grounded, not drifting
PS-009
Have you ever read your Bible and realize you don't understand what you just read?
Maybe the problem isn't you, but how you are reading the Bible!
We often read the Bible for comfort, but not for comprehension.
Read the Bible for yourself - verse by verse, thought by thought, truth by truth!
This is Inductive Bible Study. This is the Discover Your Bible way! Take this course to understand this method that will move you from surface reading to true understanding.

Prayer is always the first step in the journey
The first step in beginning a Bible discovery group is prayerful creativity. Ask God to show you a place to meet and people to join you.

How much to order?
When you have a good idea of how many you are expecting for your small group, order at least that many study guides and at least one leader guide. You might consider ordering a few extra study guides to be available for visitors or unexpected newcomers. An extra leader guide is helpful if you have a co-leader. Be sure to order a study guide for yourself as the leader too - that is what you will use during discussion!

Has reading the Bible ever seemed confusing?
Maybe the problem isn't you, but how you are reading the Bible!
PS-024
Now you have the details, it is time to understand what they mean!
Interpretation seeks to understand things on a deeper level.
When you interpret correctly, the Word comes to life!
Ask questions of the content to discover what it means.
Context is important! Who wrote it and why? How would the first audience have understood it?
What lesson was the writer trying to convey?
If you have questions, let scripture interpret scripture. Check historical background to help clarify context.

- 1Warm-up questions (Openers) are asked before the Bible discussion begins. They help build safety and provide a bridge from general conversation to the Bible passage.
- 2Fact (Observation) questions identify basic information and answer, "What does it say?"
- 3Interpretation questions build on the facts and answer, "What does it mean?"
- 4Application questions personalize the information and answer, "How do we respond?"

PS-031
- Pray Pray with group members. Pray to start and end your small group. Pray during the week about and for your group members. Pray!
- Establish trust. Let your group know you care. You are responsive when they have a question or need prayer. You will protect them if they feel unsafe or criticized. You are looking out for them because you love them as Christ loves them.
- Aim for vulnerable sharing. This takes time. You may need to set the tone by sharing vulnerably yourself. Ask questions that leave space for vulnerability. Vulnerability closes the space between people so they can connect relationally.
- Build self- and others-awareness in your group. Recognize if you or others talk too much. Recognize when people share from their hearts and appreciate it. Help everyone to be engaged and appreciative listeners by your example.
- Top down energy will engage your group. Your energy will set the tone for the group. If you are tired and downcast, you cannot expect your group to bring you up. As the leader, you need to turn up your energy every time you meet so the group will engage with one another.
- Silence is NOT the enemy! Resist the urge to "fill the air with words." Silence is space for people to think. If they have something to say, give them space to decide what they want to say and when. If there is no participation, humor goes a long way: "Am I the only one who struggled with this question?"

How often will you meet?
Meeting weekly is generally the most effective way to maintain continuity for a study.
The study's length is outlined in the study selected.
You may want to consider adding a week at the beginning to give an introduction, or at the end to share takeaways and have a social or service-oriented gathering.
When is the best time to meet?
Consider:
Work schedules
Children's schedules
Weekdays are convenient for some
Weekends or weeknights may be necessary for those who work around childcare, work, or other obligations
Where will you meet?
You have lots of options!
Look for a location that is convenient and a place where conversation will be easy.
Consider parking, privacy, noise levels, security, and comfort.

Observation (Facts)
What does the passage say? What do I see?
Maybe ask:
"What words do I see repeated in the passage?" or "Who is the passage about?"
Interpretation (Lessons)
What does the passage mean? What is the main idea?
Maybe ask:
"What do I learn from the things I observed?"
Application (Takeaways)
What can I learn? How do I respond?
Maybe ask:
"How might God be calling me to live more faithfully as a result?"

The Discover Your Bible method of Bible discovery equips you to study any passage of the Bible by first observing what it says, then interpreting what it means, and then applying it to your life.
In Global Coffee Break, all this is accomplished through questions that help every participant DISCOVER God's Word!
PS-040
I love it. But how do I tell others?
How do I tell someone about Global Coffee Break?
Global Coffee Break (GCB) is a small-group Bible discovery ministry designed especially for people who are new to the Bible—or who want to rediscover it in a welcoming, low-pressure way.
Instead of teaching or lectures, GCB uses a guided discovery method:
The group reads the Bible together
The leader asks simple, thoughtful questions
Participants discover what the passage says and means together
Small group gatherings. Casual settings. No Bible expertise required. Just honest conversation around God’s Word.
